Honored to have recently teamed up with The Gamersician on two rap + scratch collabs for his new concept album Better With Friends – a project inspired by classic video games and multiplayer nostalgia.
The Final Lap is a lyrical tribute to the Mario Kart franchise, while Too Strong channels the fast-paced energy of Street Fighter III: Third Strike.
Working with The Gamersician on this project felt effortless – both tracks came together naturally and it really felt like a true collaboration in every sense of the word.
When he sent me the beat for ‘The Final Lap’, I felt super inspired and it immediately brought back memories of playing MarioKart 64 with the homies. I wanted to tap into that feeling – fun, chaotic, and a little competitive – and write something that captured the momentum and excitement of the race.
For Too Strong, I was thinking about Street Fighter III and how that ill game feels – fast-paced, technical, and intense. The beat had that same energy, so I just tried to match it with sharp, focused lyrics, some key references/easter eggs and combo-heavy punchlines. I didn’t overthink it, I just went with what felt right.
Both tracks remind me of what it’s like to game with friends – trading jabs, talking trash, and having a blast. The album title Better With Friends couldn’t be more fitting, because the whole process felt like something built on friendship, fun, and a shared love for games and music.
