I’m excited to launch Soul Sides, a new instrumental series where I pair two complementary styles on each release. Inspired by analog formats like vinyl and cassette, each volume explores two sides of a shared musical DNA — tracing hip-hop’s roots through the genres that shaped it.
Back to Cali: Boogie & Bounce digs into the Soul Mates Library archives for a sun-drenched blend of West Coast boogie, disco, and G-funk grooves. Side A (The Boogie) channels roller rink-ready two-step, while Side B (The Bounce) leans into lowrider anthems and trunk-rattling synths.
“A lot of these tracks started when I was still living in Berkeley…digging at Amoeba, doing gigs around the Bay, and cooking up beats in our little studio apartment. That whole era laid the groundwork for this project. It really feels like a return to Cali, in both sound and spirit.” – AG
