This year, Bay Area Mural Festival is teaming up with Visit Oakland to put on the Oakland Mural Festival as part of the first ever Oakland Art Month.

The Oakland Mural Festival will bring together master muralists and Oakland youth through a series of artist residencies and workshops culminating in the painting of 9 new murals in Jack London District of Oakland.

The week long festival will end with a closing celebration in Jack London Square on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 from 1pm-6pm with entertainment hosted by OAKHELLA! Festivities include community painting, performances by local musicians and dancers, and kids activities. The Oakland Mural Festival, presented by Bay Area Mural Festival is the same festival we have put on the past two years but with a slight name change. This is to be sure folks know this event is happening in Oakland, but we have the same community oriented approach. Think of this as the Oakland edition of BAMFest.

Oakland Mural Festival will use the mural arts to engage East Bay youth, local Bay Area artists and the Oakland community through beautification and placemaking activities. The festival will call attention to social issues, honor the legacy of Oaklandโ€™s historically industrial waterfront, and celebrate Oakland’s cultural identity.
