Variations of Voodoo is my tribute to D’Angelo and one of my favorite remix projects from the archives. Originally released in 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Voodoo, the project reimagines some of my favorite records from his catalog through my own production style.
For this project, I challenged myself to step away from sampling and build the arrangements around D’Angelo’s vocals, playing and programming the instrumentation myself. The result takes songs like Devil’s Pie, Left & Right, Spanish Joint, and Brown Sugar in new directions, pulling from hip-hop, gospel, house, neo-soul and R&B along the way.

D’Angelo’s music has been a huge influence on me as a producer, and this project was always made from a place of deep respect and appreciation for his artistry and legacy.
